Biography
Megan Torti was appointed Principal Flute of the North Carolina Symphony beginning in the 2024–25 season, holding the Mr. and Mrs. George M. Stephens Chair. Before joining the orchestra, she performed regularly with the New York Philharmonic and appeared on their Sony Classical recording, A Gathering of Friends, featuring John Williams and Yo-Yo Ma. She has also performed with the Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, and Tulsa Symphony, as well as the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and as guest principal flutist with the Baltimore Symphony.
She has spent summers at the Tanglewood Music Center, Spoleto Festival USA, Eastern Music Festival, and Aspen Music Festival. A first-prize winner of both the International Latin American Flute Competition and the New Jersey Flute Society Young Artist Competition, she has also appeared as a soloist on the classical radio station WFMT Chicago and as a guest artist at the Raleigh Area Flute Association Flute Fair.
A dedicated educator, Torti maintains a private studio in North Carolina and is in demand for masterclasses across the state. She has given masterclasses at the Raleigh Area Flute Association Flute Fair and Western Carolina University, and will present a recital and masterclass at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in the fall of 2026.
Torti holds a Master’s degree in Orchestral Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, where she received the Hugo Kortschak Award for outstanding achievement in chamber music. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, graduating with distinction in research and creative works. Her principal teachers include Robert Langevin and Leone Buyse.
